CardMon Hero CBT: Day 1

CardMon Hero's CBT may have started last Wednesday but I only started playing today. The CBT only runs from 7 AM to 3 PM EST or GMT -5, giving gamers a very limited time to enjoy the game and more time for the technical crew to fix the bugs that may have been found during the day.

The game takes some time to load. While waiting, you are treated to a beginner's guide flashing on the loading screen. This is pretty helpful for noobs like me who don't bother checking the controls. If you're already familiar with the controls, you can instead watch the cute Gaal (think of a poring of Ragnarok fame, with wings) huffing and puffing at the lower left side of the screen.

Upon logging in, you will be directed to the Character Creation screen wherein you can create a maximum of three characters called Heroes. The game has a free class system so you can create any character which will eventually allow you to choose from a variety of classes depending on the character stats you will apply. I created a male Hero who uses a double-handed sword.

Character Creation Screen. Obviously this isn't my Hero.

Once you enter the game, you will directed to the first map named Abandoned Playground. A short MV will begin the game for you before heading to your first quest.

The quests in Cadmon Hero are pretty much sequenced in such a way that one quest will take you to the next map. With this said, you have to make sure that you take all the quests in the current map you're in or you'll be going back and forth. What is good about these quests is they give generous rewards: good EXP, Meso and every now and then, skills and/or Mercenary cards. It's also cool that you can click on the mini map at the upper right hand corner of the screen to go to a certain quest NPC and watch your Hero run on his own.

Joining parties makes the game more fun and questing more engaging

Mercenary cards, or the characters you can summon into the battle field, work in two ways: help you attack or buff you. Either way, they are both helpful. The cards can be acquired through quests and loots. Some cards have certain use limit (others can only be used once while others can be used 45 times) so you have to be careful about this one. Once you reach 200 Meso points (I'm not sure if it's really the Meso though), a Joker will appear. This Joker serves as an additional Mercenary for you and will help you attack monster. Consider it a bonus card as a reward for all your hard work.

A Hero with his Summoned Mercenaries behind him

The game's graphics and music are not exactly mind-blowing but it is relaxing enough to suit the cuteness flowing through the game.

For someone like me who plays using a laptop without a mouse, CardMon Hero could be a bit of a hassle at the start. It takes some time before I got used to the keyboard controls. Using WASD to move makes your Hero look like he's contorted and he doesn't stop running right away the moment you release the keys so it would be better to use the touch pad instead.

The overwhelming keyboard controls

I've only reached Level 5 so far and I admit I haven't fully explored the game and its components but this is definitely a fun break from all the heavy hack-and-slash titles out there.

Looks like T3Fun and Red Bana are starting to own my online gaming life.
