12.12 Lazada Online Revolution A Success

  • 10 million shoppers visited Lazada’s websites and mobile apps in 24 hours
  • 200 thousand customers placed orders for over 500 thousand items

Manila Philippines, 16 December 2014 – 12 December marked one of the busiest days in Southeast Asia’s online retail market as Lazada.com.ph had its biggest sale ever on the grand finale of its annual Online Revolution campaign.

The month-long campaign, which kicked off with a day of mega sales on 11 November, continued with special daily offers before culminating in a grand 24-hour sale on 12 December. Shoppers were treated to a full day of bargains including special night promotions, 16 hourly flash sales as well as free delivery on all orders above PhP 1,000.

Within 24 hours, the online shopping mall saw a record-breaking spike in traffic, customers and orders. 10 million shoppers visited Lazada’s websites and mobile applications, and 200 thousand customers placed orders for over 500 thousand items.

Mobile continues to be a key driver of growth in the region representing 50% of overall traffic, with almost 100 thousand additional Lazada mobile application downloads on that day alone. Fashion is proving to be one of its fastest growing categories. Launched only three months ago, 10 thousand pieces of Lazada's in-house private label collection LZD were snapped up in a day.

“We thank our customers for their trust and continued support of the month-long Lazada Online Revolution campaign. We will continue to enhance their shopping experience and offer the best of both worlds to our customers – great deals to be purchased at their own convenience!” said Inanc Balci, Co-Founder and CEO of Lazada Philippines (www.lazada.com.ph).

Home to over 500 million consumers, online spending across Southeast Asia has the potential to hit US$35 billion by 2020, according to a UBS study released in June 2014. Balci added, “The eCommerce market in Southeast Asia is growing rapidly. The results of our Online Revolution campaign in one single day demonstrate that the region’s consumers are ready to shop online.”

Modoo Marble: Monopoly Made Cooler

Who in the world hasn't played Monopoly or a variant of it? The game's pretty simple: Be the richest player and you win. It is a board game most of us may have played with family and friends and perhaps triggered our minds into the possibility of being future billionaires.

Now take that game to the next level with multiple twists and a multitude of fun!

Gameclub will soon launch Modoo Marble, an online casual board game that pays homage to the classic game we grew up with, with either four players going head to head or choosing a two-on-two match as they travel around the world taking turns buying and selling properties to become the ultimate business tycoon.

The global casual game sensation with more than 5 million players worldwide is set to start its CBT on December 2014.

Journey To The West International: The Monkey King Cometh!

Remember the anime Gensomaden Saiyuki and Dragon Ball? How about the movie Forbidden Kingdom? All of them have one thing in common: they are loosely based on one of the four great classic novels of Chinese literature, Journey to the West. Remember just how pumped up you all must have felt while watching them?

We can now again experience that same adrenaline rush as Cubizone recently released Journey to the West International, developed by XiaoYou Information Tech Co. Ltd. An oriental fantasy MMORPG, it is a fast-paced free-to-play game following the classic literature's mythical storyline and features a unique psyche combat system.

The game is in CBT Phase 2 from November 17-20, 2014.

Abubot.ph: A Filipino Geek's Online Store Haven

It was just a couple of weeks ago when I was talking to my aunt in the US about the lack of geek merchandise stores here in the Philippines while those that do sell the stuff are prone to sell them like they're gold: totally expensive. I kept telling her how I wish some kind geek genius would come up with something to help bring affordable items to the delight of every fandom here in the country.

Lo and behold, Abubot.ph made my dream come true.

Abubot.ph is a website that caters to the merchandise needs of every geek at a very affordable and reasonable price with the convenience of online shopping. The brainchild of Mr. Mon Macutay (AKA GM Tristan), former marketing director of Level Up! Philippines and CEO of Big Ideas Social Media Inc, the site is indeed a blessing to the Filipino geek because they deliver the items anywhere in the country.

As an added bonus, they are also open to providing an avenue for budding entrepreneurs who want to sell their items via consignment. The items would not just be posted on the site - the Abubot.ph team would also do the inventory, payment solutions and shipping.

Although still in its beta phase, they are already offering several items ranging from shirts to geek novelty. For payment methods, they accept Paypal, Credit Card, Money Transfer and Bank Deposits. Less hassle, more geekery!

Follow their Facebook page and please do check out their site for more details.

Let us support our fellow geeks!

The Shame in Filipino Online Gamers?

I have always been proud of being a gamer - specifically an online gamer - but have always been hesitant of admitting that I am a Filipino gamer.

Before my fellow Filipinos start bashing me with their usual Pinoy pride, please allow me to explain why.

In my long years of online gaming, both locally and internationally, Filipinos have always been generalized to be rude and obnoxious players and are the number one suspects whenever there are incidents of scamming and cheating in-game. It's not something that bothers me when I'm playing a locally distributed online game but if I'm in the SEA server, it's like an arrow to the jugular.
